Estimator

Our client is currently looking for an experienced Estimator with a primary function to provide construction project estimating ranging from small to large sized projects. The successful candidate will be someone who utilizes previous experience and formal training to ensure compliance to the organization's Safety, Health and Environmental, Quality Control and administrative management systems. She/he will interpret construction bid documents and technical drawings to identify engineering specifications, evaluate and estimate materials, manpower, schedule and budget.
Essential Job Functions
- Estimates construction materials, technical specifications, employee hours, cost and any other job requirements for project;
- Reviews contracts and interprets cost impacts for the company;
- Tracks and records costs for continuous improvement;
- Consults with all levels of Operations on a regular basis from conceptual, preliminary and final stages to ensure labour, equipment and material reflect current pricing, construction costs, and timelines;
- Ensures construction is consistent with the work projected estimate;
- Works within estimating team in the development of proposals and estimates;
- Conducts solicitation of materials, subcontractors, sub-trades, and consultants;
- Reviews tender requirements, specifications, and design drawings to determine scope of work;
- Prepares detailed estimates and proposals;
- Reviews engineered designs to optimize construction process, improve efficiencies, and reduce costs;
- Maintains an intimate understanding of the market conditions;
- Ensures all bids are submitted prior to deadlines and satisfy all requirements set forth;
- Other duties as required;
Educational requirements
- Post-secondary education – ideally C.E.T.;
- Industry professional development and/or accreditation from an industry recognized association or institute is considered an asset;
- OR equivalent combination of education and experience;
Work experience
- Have 3 to 5 years estimating experience from the insulation/insulating industry;
- Must have experience in projects in the oil & gas or other heavy industrial construction sector;
- Previous experience in industrial insulation is preferred;
Skill requirement
- Proficiency with Windows, Internet Explorer, and MSOffice (Word, Excel, and Outlook);
- Ability to work under pressure and within a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and consistently meet deadlines;
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and documents;
- Ability to work in a team environment;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;

Working conditions
- Visual stress – extended periods of time spent at a desk viewing a computer monitor;
- Edmonton, AB based office.
