Pipefitter

Various locations, Alberta and British Columbia, CANADA

The Pipefitter is responsible for the assembling, fabrication and repairing of pipes, tubes, fittings, piping systems, fixtures and other equipment for Oil & Gas processing systems in compliance with industry process specifications and standards and other organization standards while ensuring a Zero Harm work environment – ensuring all safety procedures, standards and best practices are strictly met and maintained at the same time.


Essential Job Functions

  • Cut, thread, bend and hammer pipes to specifications with use of tools such as hacksaws, pipe cutters, cutting torches, hammer, chisel, pipe threaders/threading machines and benders
  • Select appropriate types and sizes of metal and non-metal pipes and other relevant materials accordingly as per job specifications
  • Assemble and secure pipes to walls, structures and fixtures including but not exclusive to tanks and radiators by use of brackets, clamps, hangers, hand tools, welding equipment and/or threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints
  • Plan and repair the pipe system layout and installation according to specifications
  • Inspect and test piping system for any faulty piping and leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes
  • Read, follow and translate blueprints, fabrication drawings, specifications and other instructions
  • Plan and make informed decisions based on given parameters, criteria and visualization of objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings
  • Fasten pipe components by following company welding procedures
  • Turn valves using valve keys or wrenches to shut off steam, water or other gases and liquids from pipe sections
  • Install and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, piping and pneumatic & hydraulic controls
  • Monitor, record and report any discrepancies and issues with parts including but not limited to malfunctions or defects to the Supervisor
  • Inspects worksites to identify any existing and potential obstructions to prevent obstruction from other construction workers and their activities
  • Maintain, inspect and modify pipes in the installation plans and replace any worn parts accordingly to ensure any holes or faulty piping will not cause structural weakness
  • Zero Harm Safety – work safely and maintaining safety in all areas of the organization
  • Maintain a high standard and quality of workmanship with high-level accuracy

Educational requirements

  • Journeyman Steamfitter-Pipefitter Certificate or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills – reading, understanding and interpreting
  • Valid First Aid ticket and other HSE-related tickets are assets
